Sculptra® Aesthetic® is a popular dermal stimulator made of poly-L-lactic acid, which activates collagen production. Injected into a deep layer of the skin, Sculptra®’s reinforced collagen structure provides a foundation that gradually restores the look of fullness to deep facial wrinkles and folds, similar to a non-surgical face lift.

Sculptra® is different from other dermal fillers because it gradually and subtly corrects facial wrinkles by targeting the underlying causes of facial aging. Poly-L-lactic acid has been used safely in medical products for over 25 years.

The skill of your injector is vital for a natural-looking result. Your injector must have the training and experience to know the proper dosage and where to place the injections. At Comprehensive Dermatology Center of Pasadena, we have many years of experience with Sculptra® and other dermal fillers. We know how these products work in the skin and can recommend whether Sculptra® or a combination of fillers will give you the look you want.

What Can Sculptra® Do For Me?

Sculptra® can significantly improve:

  • Deep facial wrinkles
  • Skin folds such as the nasolabial folds from the nose to the mouth (smile lines)
  • Marionette lines from the mouth to the chin
  • Indented chin surfaces and chin wrinkles
  • Hollowed cheeks
  • Sunken eyes

What is a Sculptra® Treatment Like?

The extent of your Sculptra® procedure may involve one or several areas of the face. You typically also require more than one treatment to get the results you want. Most patients receive three Sculptra® treatments.

A small needle or cannula is used to inject Sculptra®, and the formula includes Lidocaine, which helps to numb the injection areas. We also apply a topical anesthetic to ensure your comfort.

Including the time required for the topical anesthetic to take effect, your appointment for Sculptra® injections should last no more than an hour.

How Long Do Sculptra® Results Last?

On average, three injection sessions are needed over a period of a few months, but this varies from patient to patient. After the recommended regimen, the effects of Sculptra® can last up to two years.

What Will I Experience While Recovering From Sculptra®?

There may be some downtime after Sculptra® injections due to possible bruising. Not every patient experiences this side effect, and there is no way to predict if you will. The bruising is generally minor, however, and resolves within a few days. You may also experience some redness, itching, swelling, and soreness. You can take over-the-counter pain medication if necessary.

For the first day, you will need to avoid exercise. Then, you can resume normal activities as long as you stay out of the sun.

You may also notice small lumps under the skin for a short time. We will provide you with full instructions for caring for the injection sites and any potential side effects to watch for. Of course, we are always available to answer any questions you have as you heal from your procedure.
