Halo™ Laser

Halo™ Gives Our Patients Full Skin Rejuvenation

Sun exposure and the natural aging process can cause your skin to look older, dull, and lifeless. You may have acquired wrinkles or highly pigmented areas often referred to as “age spots” or “sun spots.” However, medical technology has progressed to produce highly effective and safe treatments that can be used to reverse the aging process.

Our state-of-the-art Sciton Halo™ laser uses the most advanced technology available to fully rejuvenate your skin and help you appear more vibrant and youthful. In a single treatment or two with this highly effective laser, patients can expect skin tone to become more even, fine lines and wrinkles to disappear, the skin to become more full and taut, and a dewy glow to return to your face.

What is the Halo™ Laser?

Fractional laser resurfacing is one of the most popular methods for laser skin resurfacing. It can be safely used to improve many different skin imperfections, and there is much evidence that it can correct all of the following problems:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, mouth, forehead, and cheeks
  • Uneven and unclear skin texture and coloration
  • Scars from trauma to the skin and acne
  • Pigmented dark spots
  • Under-eye “dark circles”
  • Pores that are abnormally large

Fractional lasers work by focusing a beam of laser energy to a small fraction of the skin at a time, leaving the other portion of the skin intact. The laser destroys the cells in the microscopic column that is treated, but the surrounding cells are left untouched to aid in healing. Less than half of the skin receives the treatment, but all of the skin benefits from new cell growth, increased collagen production, and full skin rejuvenation.

Unlike non-fractional lasers, you can experience full facial rejuvenation after your Halo™ procedure with only a couple of days of healing. In fact, most patients are back in makeup within 2 days of treatment!

Halo is a hybrid fractional laser, which means that it uses two wavelengths of energy at the same time, an ablative and a non-ablative wavelength. The laser is also tunable, so it can be precisely adjusted to meet the needs of each patient. The combination of the two wavelengths of energy has been shown to maximize clinical results and minimize downtime.

How Should I Prepare for My Sciton Halo™ Treatment?

Before your laser treatment, you should protect your skin from too much sunlight and wear strong sunscreen to prevent sun damage. During the days immediately before the procedure, your dermatologist may recommend treating your skin with topical antioxidants such as Vitamin A that may enhance your healing and outcomes. If you have fever blisters, cold sores, or other types of viral breakouts, you may need to take antiviral medication prior to your treatment to prevent an episode or breakout. You can expect to be given clear instructions on how to best prepare for treatment when you come in for your consultation.

What Should I Expect During My Halo™ Laser Treatment?

Because the Halo™ laser uses hybrid wavelengths, it is more comfortable than other fractional resurfacing methods. Patients are treated with a topical anesthetic cream about 30 minutes to one hour prior to their laser session. No additional injections are necessary, as the procedure is tolerated quite well with only the topical numbing cream. Most patients describe the feeling of the treatment as a general warming with occasional pricking sensations.

Once the treatment begins, your highly-trained clinician will pass the Halo handpiece back and forth across the skin. The Halo has built-in tracking and measuring which ensures even treatment over the surface of the skin, and it automatically recognizes when the treatment is complete.

Prior to the treatment, your clinician may adjust the energy level in the laser, finely tuning the treatment to your skin and goals. This adjustability also allows you and your clinician to work together to determine the number of treatments you will have – you may choose to have one or two aggressive treatments or a series of less aggressive treatments that will each heal more quickly but achieve a similar goal over a longer period of time. Regardless of the energy level of your treatment, you can expect to be done and out of the office within a couple of hours.

What is PRO-NOX?

PRO-NOX is a revolutionary method of rapid onset pain management and anxiety relief. Essentially, PRO-NOX is a method of local anesthesia that patients can administer to themselves during treatment via inhalation. With PRO-NOX, which is a fixed 50/50 mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide, the patient gains numerous benefits, such as not having to go under general anesthesia.

Other advantages include:

  • works almost instantly to provide rapid relief
  • does not cause lasting effects
  • will not prolong recovery time
  • is a very affordable and safe approach
  • clears from the body within minutes
  • is entirely non-addictive

Be sure to ask your surgeon if PRO-NOX is suitable for your procedure.

What Should I Expect During Recovery from Halo™?

Your skin will continue to feel warm after the laser treatment, but this should go away within an hour or so. We will discuss specific recommendations for caring for your skin as you heal, but you should expect to keep it protected from the sun and free from makeup for the first 24 hours. You may feel as though you have a mild sunburn during the first day following the treatment.

After 24 hours, most patients are able to return to regular activities. Your skin will begin to peel, but you can use makeup at this time while your skin is healing. It may take 3-4 days for your skin to peel completely; when it does, it will reveal new skin underneath and results of your Halo™ treatment will be visible.

One of the major benefits of this laser is that your skin will continue to improve over the next few weeks. The natural healing process of your skin increases the production of compounds such as collagen, which will enhance the structure of your skin. The dermal regeneration that is stimulated by the Halo™ laser treatment will last for months, gradually giving you additional smoothness, improved pigmentation, and overall glow!

You can expect to enjoy the benefits of the Halo™ treatment for years to come, especially if you are diligent with protecting your skin from additional sun damage. You may choose to have another treatment down the road, and that will only further improve your skin. Get the skin you’ve been dreaming of with our state-of-the-art Halo™ laser treatment!
